Club Member of the Month – November 2024

Opps! I am super later with the Hels Bells Club Member of the Month for November as we are now well into December. However as the saying goes all good things are worth waiting for and this is true for November!

In my defence its been a busy time with the Christmas party taking place last week, alongside organising a charity raffle for Women’s Aid, which raised a staggering £455.

We had a great night out at our annual party at Cafe Marina, Portishead and as always had our awards ceremony, you’ll need to read the Hels Bells newletter which comes out this weekend to find out who won!

So on to our club member of the month! I am delighted to announce that this month the award goes to Gracie, who is one of our youngest club members.

Gracie joined Hels Bells about 18 months ago. As is often the case when the children of club members join they don’t stay for long because of all their other sporting commitments. However Gracie has bucked that trend attending consistently twice a week, juggling school studies and netball.

Her progress has been phenomenal and she has quite literally gone from strength to strength. Steadily using heavier bells and working hard to improve her technique. Last night was a prime example of this where she tested her press and got the 20kg over her head comfortably! It was amazing to watch!

Gracie works alongside her dad in class but it has also been great to see her integrating with other club members in recent months and as ever they are being totally supportive of her.

When in doubt Gracie always asks for advice which is absolutely what she should do. My priority as her coach is to keep her safe and injury free. So I always guide her with advice on what weight to use. Sometimes encouraging her to go heavier and sometimes the completed opposite encouraging her to go lighter to allow her to work on technique. Gracie accepts this advice readily.

Gracie has commented to me how she enjoys the sessions and feels it is complimenting her netball. But it also gives her the chance to switch off from her studies.

It’s a pleasure to support and coach Gracie and I am delighted with the progress she has made since starting. A huge well done Gracie and I look forward to seeing what you can achieve in 2025.
